I am currently on leave, and I am not taking new PhD or MSc students during this period.

I am an AI Scientist at Mistral, an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Department of Linguistics at McGill University, a Canada CIFAR AI Chair, and a core faculty member of Mila - Quebec AI Institute. I co-lead the McGill NLP Group. Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University and a Google PhD fellow at the University of Edinburgh. I am a recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and the CS-Can Outstanding Early Career Computer Science Researcher Award. Broadly, my research spans representation learning for language, building intelligent language agents for complex tasks, safety and alignment, and multimodal language understanding.
